Mercedes-Benz Cuts 2026 Profit Outlook
German automaker drops 15% growth target due to China crisis and rising costs

Mercedes-Benz has revised its financial expectations for 2026. The company now projects that core profit will remain flat at 5.8 billion euros. The previous goal anticipated growth of at least 15% for the period.
This adjustment reflects operational difficulties the automaker faces in China. The company also lowered its expected profit margin for the car segment. The new forecast ranges between 2% and 3% which is down from the initial estimate of 3% to 5%.
The situation in China impacts several German luxury manufacturers. Growing competition from local brands especially in the electric vehicle sector is pressuring results. Mercedes-Benz is the third major automaker in the country to lower its annual projections recently.
The German automotive sector is facing a deep structural crisis. Beyond falling sales companies are dealing with rising material costs. Instability in Asia's largest economy directly affects global investor confidence in European industrial assets.
The weakening of European industrial giants may increase the perceived risk in traditional assets amid uncertainty regarding economic growth in the eurozone.
