DoorDash has announced the acquisition of Instacart for approximately $17 billion. The payment will be made through a combination of cash and stock. Each Instacart share is valued at $65 in the transaction.

This price represents an 11% premium over last Wednesday's closing value. DoorDash shares rose more than 8% in pre-market trading following the announcement. The deal is expected to close between late 2027 and early 2028.

DoorDash intends to keep the Instacart brand and technology after the integration. The company aims to expand its presence in the grocery delivery sector. This move comes amid intense competition with giants like Amazon and Walmart.

Instacart struggled to maintain the rapid growth achieved during the pandemic. The company also recently dealt with legal resolutions involving advertising and subscription practices. Analysts note that the merger could attract scrutiny from antitrust regulators due to market dominance.

This consolidation in the delivery sector reflects a push for operational efficiency in global technology markets. Large-scale mergers often increase risk aversion in regulated sectors and may influence dollar liquidity by concentrating capital in major corporate operations.
