Senator Bill Hagerty has advocated for the creation of a strategic Bitcoin reserve by the United States. The debate involves the possibility of the country holding 200,000 units of the asset on its official balance sheet.
Hagerty criticized the implementation of central bank digital currencies. According to the lawmaker, this model of financial control is incompatible with the principles of individual liberty.
A lack of clear guidelines has allowed the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission to exert excessive influence over the sector. The senator seeks to reverse this scenario through new legislation before the next session of Congress in January.
The lawmaker also addressed the impact of stablecoins on the demand for U.S. Treasury bonds. He highlighted how these digital assets can reinforce the dollar's hegemony in the global financial system.
The legislator's current focus includes advancing the Clarity Act and the implementation of the GENIUS Act. These measures aim to modernize payment and settlement systems in the financial market.
