Bitcoin Lending Could Drive New Institutional Demand
Report suggests that credit and corporate financing uses expand Bitcoin utility beyond a simple store of value.

The development of lending and yield-generation services for Bitcoin could spark a new wave of institutional interest. Analysis from RootstockLabs suggests that putting idle assets on corporate balance sheets transforms the currency into a more dynamic financial tool.
Currently, only 1.5% of the total Bitcoin supply participates in lending or native finance activities. Institutions hold approximately 3.9 million units of the cryptocurrency and could increase this participation to optimize their balance sheet efficiency.
The proposed model involves generating returns on existing holdings and using Bitcoin as collateral against fiat currency liabilities. This strategy seeks to replicate the success of historical monetary assets that expanded their utility beyond a simple store of value.
Risks such as borrower default and custody failures remain on the market radar. The asset's volatility also increases the challenges related to leverage in structured credit operations.
The rise of Bitcoin-based financial products could boost institutional demand for the asset by making it a central piece in global corporate treasury management.
