Google has updated its privacy terms to allow the use of personal data in advertising campaigns. The change took effect on October 16 and impacts users who integrate Gmail, Google Drive, and Google Photos with artificial intelligence features.

The company added a clause that creates an exception for the use of private content. The text now permits ad personalization if the user authorizes the connection between these services and other company tools that support targeted advertising.

This measure is linked to the advancement of artificial intelligence tools such as Gemini and enhanced search modes. The goal is for the technology to use user data to provide more accurate responses, such as locating hotel reservations or stored documents.

Google stated that content from these services is not used for ad targeting by default. The company declared that it does not provide advertisers with direct access to user files and does not share personally identifiable information without permission.

Users can manage these permissions in their Google account settings. It is possible to disconnect applications in the linked content section or disable personalized recommendations to prevent the use of data in advertising.
