Nvidia and Nike Block Stock Tokenization Plans on OKX-ICE
About 70% of the companies selected for trading rejected participation in the stock-backed token project.
Fifty publicly traded companies have formally objected to the inclusion of their shares on the OKX and Intercontinental Exchange tokenization platform. Among the names that rejected the plan are Nvidia, Nike, Costco, Microsoft, and JPMorgan. This movement represents nearly 70% of the 62 companies initially chosen to join the project.
The OKX-ICE initiative aimed to allow around-the-clock trading of tokenized versions of American stocks on the X Layer blockchain. The model uses automated liquidity pools and stablecoins like USDC. The structure relies on an innovation exemption granted by the SEC, which waives the formal requirement to register as a stock exchange for tokenized security venues.
Companies have a 30-day window to submit written notice if they do not want their assets tokenized by third parties. Under the regulation, silence from a company is interpreted as tacit consent. With the deadline approaching, the list of opponents has grown rapidly since mid-October.
Although the companies did not detail their reasons for refusal, Nasdaq has taken an active stance against the model. The exchange operator argues that platforms outside the National Market System may fragment liquidity and lack real-time price reporting. Nasdaq is preparing its own token solution for 2027.
