ARC Token Sale Boosts Circle's Third Quarter Profits
Digital asset revenue offsets decline in USDC reserve yields amid lower interest rates
Circle reported a significant increase in its third-quarter earnings driven by the ARC token pre-sale. The company generated 182 million dollars from this operation which helped balance the decrease in revenue produced by the reserves backing the USDC stablecoin.
Diluted earnings per share reached 0.84 dollars and surpassed analyst expectations of 0.42 dollars. Total revenue and reserve income rose 17 percent to reach 865 million dollars. Without the contribution from the ARC token sale the company's revenue would have shown a decline compared to the previous year.
Circle's strategy seeks to diversify revenue sources beyond the traditional stablecoin model. Reserve yields fell by 61 basis points to settle at 3.5 percent. This scenario occurred even as the average circulation of USDC grew by 8 percent during the period.
The pressure on earnings reflects the drop in interest rates compared to last year. The Federal Reserve raised the benchmark rate to a range between 3.75 percent and 4 percent in September which is still lower than the levels recorded during the same period of the previous cycle.
Competition in the stablecoin market has also intensified with the entry of new participants. USDC ended September with 73.9 billion dollars in circulation and lost 1.83 percentage points of market share.
