Brazil GDP Growth Forecasts Cut Amid Fiscal Policy Uncertainty
Analysts lower growth expectations as high interest rates and fiscal concerns weigh on the outlook
Financial analysts have lowered their expectations for Brazil's Gross Domestic Product growth. This shift stems from the perception that necessary fiscal adjustments will not be implemented. The climate of economic uncertainty intensified following the results of the presidential election runoff.
Itaú Unibanco adjusted its growth forecast to 1.6% for this year. For 2027, the estimate dropped from 1.2% to 0.5%. The bank's economic team notes that keeping interest rates high for an extended period will likely restrict household consumption and investment.
Projected inflation for the end of next year stands at 6.1%. This price level requires the Selic rate to remain restrictive to prevent the erosion of purchasing power. High levels of household debt also limit the capacity for domestic demand to expand.
Banco ABC Brasil also revised its projections downward. The institution now expects 1.7% growth for 2027. Reduced fiscal stimulus and tighter financial conditions are the primary factors cited for the lower long-term estimates.
The absence of concrete fiscal measures has increased risk premiums in the domestic market. This trend has pressured local assets and heightened currency volatility. The current landscape reflects investor caution regarding the trajectory of public debt and monetary policy.
