Geopolitical Tensions Loom Over APEC Summit Preparations
North Korea sets conditions for talks as Shenzhen restricts movement to host global leaders
The sister of the North Korean leader has issued an ultimatum to Donald Trump. She demands an end to the hostile policy of the United States toward her country before any negotiations can take place.
This tense backdrop coincides with preparations for the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation summit in Shenzhen. The event is scheduled for November 18 and 19 and is expected to bring together heads of state including Trump, Vladimir Putin, and Xi Jinping.
The Chinese city has adopted strict measures for the summit. Schools will remain closed from November 17 to 20 and vehicle traffic will be limited to prevent congestion.
More than 1 million drivers have already pledged not to use their cars during this period. The local government is encouraging the use of public transportation and offering benefits to residents who comply with the restrictions.
Shenzhen aims to strengthen its international profile as a technology hub by hosting the forum. The Shenzhen Bao'an International Airport recorded a 30% increase in arrivals of APEC members during the first ten months of 2026.
