Military action hits Strait of Hormuz ahead of US elections

United States military forces carried out strikes against Qeshm Island, located in the Strait of Hormuz. The American government described the operation as limited and defensive. The action was a response to fire directed by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps at a United States aircraft.

Iran's state news agency confirmed reports of explosions in the region last Monday. The United States Central Command has not yet provided details on the operational outcomes. This scenario unfolds during a period of high internal political tension within the United States.

President Donald Trump stated that he is in no rush to expand the military conflict. He highlighted that the country has focused on strategies to financially weaken the Iranian government. The American leader also mentioned the possibility of targeted interventions at sites linked to Iran's nuclear program.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi declared that intense negotiations are underway through mediators. The Iranian representative stated that the country is prepared for various diplomatic or military scenarios. The choice between dialogue and aggression remains a central point of the current crisis.

Increased instability in the Middle East tends to heighten risk aversion in global markets. This usually drives demand for safe-haven assets and puts upward pressure on the dollar.
