Dow Jones posts best daily performance in 18 months following US legislative elections

New York stock exchanges closed with significant gains after the Democratic Party secured control of both the House and the Senate. The Dow Jones index surpassed the 53,000-point mark and reached its best daily result since April 2025. President Donald Trump's acceptance of the results reduced global political uncertainty.

The technology sector faced limited gains due to expectations of increased oversight on artificial intelligence companies. New rules for data center expansion, supported by Democratic leaders, could raise operational costs and slow down technological infrastructure projects across the country.

In Brazil, the Ibovespa rose 1.23% to reach 167,563 points, breaking a six-day losing streak. The spot dollar fell 0.65% to 5.4518 Brazilian reais. The local market reacted to external optimism and the anticipation of fiscal adjustment announcements from the federal government.

The performance of Brazilian stocks was mixed. Vale shares rose 3.49% following the increase in iron ore prices, while Petrobras shares fell more than 7% due to a sharp drop in oil prices. The formal Brazilian labor market recorded the creation of 121,305 jobs in September, according to Caged data.

The reduction of geopolitical tensions in the Middle East, combined with the election results, pushed oil prices downward. This global movement could ease inflationary pressures, impacting the trajectory of interest rates and the flow of foreign capital into emerging markets.
