The financial market is facing a day of deep pessimism due to a decline in tech stocks and an unprecedented security incident in the crypto sector. Nasdaq futures are trading sharply lower ahead of the opening bell.
Amazon shares fell more than 7% in pre-market trading after reporting results that disappointed investors. Intel faces an even more critical situation with a 25% drop in early trading driven by weak fourth-quarter projections and stagnant demand in the personal computer market.
Binance revealed a cyberattack that compromised 6.3 billion dollars in assets. The exchange, along with Circle and Tether, blocked billions in funds to contain the damage from the breach, which experts attribute to a possible state-sponsored actor.
Bitcoin retreated below 78,000 dollars amid the instability caused by the hack. The crypto sector reflects this uncertainty as exchange-traded funds focused on the digital currency also decline.
While the tech sector struggles, energy companies show different results. Chevron beat third-quarter expectations while ExxonMobil projects a significant jump in its earnings per share.
