Rising Energy Costs Boost Solar Market in the Philippines
Conflict in Iran drives up electricity bills and accelerates solar panel adoption among Filipino households

Rising geopolitical tensions involving Iran have pushed global energy prices higher. In the Philippines, the impact is felt directly in household electricity bills.
The country already had some of the highest electricity costs in Southeast Asia before the conflict began. Consumers report significant spikes in the monthly amounts paid to local utility companies.
This financial pressure has forced domestic investors to seek self-sufficiency alternatives. Installing rooftop solar panels has become a strategy to reduce long-term expenses.
Official data shows a rush for photovoltaic equipment between March and May. The country imported 407 million dollars worth of panels from China during this initial period of the conflict.
Industry reports show that the number of solar installations has nearly doubled since the beginning of 2025. Investing in private infrastructure is seen as a way to hedge against the volatility of imported energy prices.
