Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov arrived in Tehran this Monday for meetings with Iranian officials. The primary focus of the visit is the ongoing conflict between Iran and the United States, which began in February 2026.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi stated that the talks addressed regional instability and military tensions. He blamed the lack of security in the Strait of Hormuz on joint actions by Israel and the United States in the region.
Lavrov highlighted Moscow's commitment to a twenty-year strategic partnership agreement with Iran. The treaty officially entered into force in early October 2026 and solidifies diplomatic ties between the two nations.
Before arriving in Iran, the Russian representative visited Bahrain to speak with members of the Gulf Cooperation Council. The group requested that Russia use its diplomatic influence to halt attacks on commercial vessels and ensure the reopening of maritime routes.
Instability in the Middle East and the blockade of strategic oil routes are increasing risk aversion in global markets. This scenario tends to pressure the dollar as a store of value and impact the volatility of digital assets like Bitcoin.
