The government of Cyprus has signed contracts valued at $1.8 billion for the development of the Kronos natural gas field. The infrastructure will be installed within the country's Exclusive Economic Zone.
The project is led by the Italian group Eni in partnership with the French company Total. Both firms will work together to facilitate the extraction of resources in the Mediterranean region.
The strategic plan aims to market Cypriot gas through Egypt. The primary goal is to supply international markets and meet the demand of European countries.
Production is scheduled to begin in 2028. This initiative represents a significant step for energy cooperation in the Eastern Mediterranean.
Increased energy supply in the region could reduce commodity price volatility. This tends to lower global inflationary pressure and stabilize risk appetite for sensitive assets like Bitcoin.
