The defense technology sector attracted $4 billion in private equity investments during the first nine months of 2026. This figure represents a significant jump compared to the $500 million recorded in 2024.
Capital flow is driven by rising military spending and the need to modernize defense systems. Companies focused on autonomous drones, missiles, and satellite technology are seeking external resources to scale industrial production.
The distinction between venture capital and private equity has blurred as firms target more mature companies in the sector. The number of defense growth deals jumped from 15 in 2024 to 48 through September 2026.
Analysts note that private capital has become essential to bridge the gap between technological innovation and large-scale manufacturing. Startups in NATO countries and allies raised $27.1 billion through September, nearly double the total accumulated in 2025.
Increased exposure of major funds to defense assets raises geopolitical risk in global portfolios.
