Galp has confirmed the end of negotiations with Moeve regarding the merger of their refining and distribution operations. The dialogue between the two companies lasted several months without reaching a consensus.
Moeve is backed by the Mubadala Investment Company and the American group Carlyle. The initial goal was to combine the downstream structures of both companies within the energy sector.
The Portuguese firm stated that ending these talks has no impact on its current operations. Management reinforced that it remains confident in its existing business strategy.
The failure to merge keeps the competitive landscape of the energy sector in the Iberian Peninsula unchanged. Galp continues to operate independently across all its market segments.
The lack of consolidation in the energy sector may increase risk perception for assets in this segment due to the maintenance of isolated operating costs. This scenario affects the volatility of currencies tied to economies dependent on fuel imports and alters risk appetite for more volatile assets.
