The UK government has announced the creation of the first national biosafety laboratory dedicated to artificial intelligence. The project will receive an initial investment of £100 million as part of the new state budget.
The initiative is supported by leading technology companies. OpenAI and Anthropic have provided £200 million in credits for the use of their AI models in the center's research efforts.
The investment plan also includes an additional £120 million for the country's AI Safety Institute. This body works to evaluate risks in advanced models and establish technical standards for the sector.
British authorities state that the goal is to protect national infrastructure against cyberattacks and emerging biological threats. The laboratory aims to bring together global experts to ensure that the economic growth generated by the technology occurs safely.
The focus on technological security and digital sovereignty may increase demand for protection assets and network infrastructure while influencing risk perception in global markets that rely on systemic stability.
