US embassies in the Middle East have raised their alert levels due to growing threats. A memo from Director of National Intelligence Jay Clayton states that Iran is in the advanced stages of planning attacks against United States citizens in the region.
The US government has ordered the departure of non-essential personnel from Saudi Arabia. The decision followed an escalation in attacks carried out by Iranian-backed groups. The Saudi-led coalition reported the destruction of two ballistic missiles fired at its territory last Saturday.
The Trump administration declared it intends to delay military action against Iran until the legislative elections conclude. The prolonged conflict creates direct impacts on the US economy and worries voters regarding inflation and the cost of living. Control of Congress will be decided in early November.
The escalation of tensions in the Middle East triggered a significant rise in oil prices. Brent crude surpassed the 116 dollar mark and reached its highest value in six months. West Texas Intermediate oil also recorded a gain of over 3% during the period.
