Amazon's cloud computing division posted revenue of 45.98 billion dollars in the third quarter. This result represents a 39% increase compared to the same period last year and surpassed analyst estimates.
The growth was driven by high demand for infrastructure focused on artificial intelligence. The company closed contracts with Meta and OpenAI during the quarter. The segment's operating profit reached 17.77 billion dollars, a 55% increase.
Amazon maintains its leadership in the sector, although competition with Microsoft and Alphabet has intensified. Microsoft reported that Azure now represents 72% of the size of AWS. Google Cloud also showed significant acceleration in its recent results.
To support expansion, Amazon is investing in the growth of its data centers and the offering of Nvidia graphics processors. The company plans to make its Trainium chips available to external customers starting at the end of 2027. The goal is to meet the growing need for processing power for advanced models.
CEO Andy Jassy projects that AWS could exceed 40% annual growth in 2027 and 2028. The expectation is that the unit will become a trillion-dollar business in the next decade. The cloud sector currently accounts for 23% of Amazon's total revenue.
