Amazon reported mixed financial results this Thursday. The company performed below analyst expectations for the third fiscal quarter. Furthermore, the firm issued a cautious forecast for fourth-quarter sales, which covers the holiday shopping season.

The cloud computing sector, known as AWS, was the positive highlight of the report. Sales for this unit grew 39.3% in the quarter ending September 30. This pace of expansion is the fastest recorded by the division in nearly five years.

Investors are closely monitoring the company's multi-billion dollar spending on artificial intelligence. CEO Andy Jassy stated that capital expenditure is expected to reach 220 billion dollars this year. The amount includes expenses for robots, semiconductors, and satellites to expand service capacity.

The market reacted with pessimism to the figures presented. Shares of the company fell more than 6% in after-hours trading. Investor focus shifted to the performance of the core business and the high costs associated with technological infrastructure.

Caution regarding the tech sector has increased following recent results from other industry giants. The market is assessing whether massive investments in data centers and artificial intelligence chips will yield the expected returns in the short term.
