Microsoft announced its intention to raise $25 billion through a bond issuance. The company is leveraging its AAA credit rating to facilitate the expansion of its technological infrastructure.
The financial injection aims to meet the growing demand from artificial intelligence labs such as OpenAI and Anthropic. The company projects capital expenditures in the range of $170 billion for the year 2026.
The proceeds will be used for general corporate purposes. These include working capital, capital expenditures, share repurchases, and the repayment of existing debt.
The company maintains a positive free cash flow, which sets it apart from competitors like Alphabet, Meta, and Amazon. The bond offering is expected to be completed by November 4.
The pursuit of external capital comes in a scenario where investors show caution toward companies accumulating large volumes of debt. The current macroeconomic environment is marked by high interest rates set by central banks to curb inflation.
