Tech Giants Turn to Nuclear Power to Fuel AI Growth
Amazon and Google sign long-term deals to secure the electricity needed for data centers

The world's largest cloud computing companies are turning to nuclear energy to meet the surging power demands of artificial intelligence data centers. Amazon and Google have signed twenty-year contracts to secure electricity supplies. The goal is to ensure the continuous operation of infrastructure that consumes massive amounts of power.
The agreements focus on expanding the capacity of existing reactors rather than building new units. Constellation will invest over 4.3 billion dollars to modernize eleven reactors located in Illinois, Pennsylvania, and New Jersey. The project aims to boost energy production to meet the needs of these tech companies.
The current landscape marks a significant shift in public and political perception regarding nuclear energy. After decades of resistance due to historical accidents, decommissioned reactors are being brought back online. The United States Department of Energy has made up to 4.4 billion dollars in loans available to support the return of closed plants.
The tech sector initially bet on chip efficiency and cooling systems to reduce consumption. However, performance gains have not lowered the total demand for electricity. Each technical advancement is quickly absorbed by larger and more complex processing models.
Reliance on stable energy sources increases the operational risk for tech firms and may pressure global infrastructure costs. This movement reinforces the pursuit of real assets and energy as a foundation, which could influence value perception in digital asset markets and energy commodities.
