Starting next week, Solana will activate the Alpenglow upgrade, which cuts block finality time from 12.8 seconds to roughly 150 milliseconds. The jump in speed brings the network closer to the latency typical of high-performance traditional financial systems.
The new architecture keeps throughput high without giving up decentralization. Developers of automated trading applications, on-chain games and instant payment protocols can now count on near-immediate confirmation.
The technical advance puts pressure on other layers to speed up their scalability roadmaps. Solana is positioning itself as an ultra-low-latency execution layer, opening room for real-time financial products that were previously unworkable on blockchain.
