GitBook Platform Hit by Cyberattack Using AI Agents
Technical documentation firm revoked access tokens following a breach of its credential infrastructure.
The GitBook platform, widely used by cryptocurrency projects to host technical manuals, has confirmed a security breach. The incident occurred on November 2 and involved the use of artificial intelligence agents to obtain infrastructure credentials.
The attack allowed intruders to gain unauthorized access to internal systems. The company acted quickly to contain the intrusion and temporarily suspended access to its editing and documentation services.
AI agents have the ability to execute command sequences and interact with software autonomously. This characteristic makes such tools useful for automating complex and targeted cyberattacks.
As a precautionary measure, GitBook requested that its users immediately rotate their keys and access tokens. The platform remained offline during the recovery process to ensure the integrity of data and external connections.
The service was restored on Tuesday, although the company warned of possible residual instability. Decentralized finance projects rely on these manuals to guide developers and users in their interactions with protocols.
