The FBI has identified North Korea as the party responsible for the theft of approximately $6.3 billion in digital assets from the Binance exchange. The U.S. agency labeled this cyber activity as TraderTraitor and noted that the attackers primarily convert the stolen funds into Ether.

Hackers utilize decentralized finance services and instant exchange platforms to carry out advanced money laundering steps. The agency has requested that node operators, exchanges, and blockchain analysis firms block transactions linked to the addresses identified in the investigation.

Data shows that groups linked to the North Korean regime were responsible for 60% of the value lost in crypto attacks in 2025. These resources are directed toward funding the country's nuclear and ballistic missile programs.

Reports indicate that between 2016 and early 2026, North Korean actors stole approximately $6.75 billion across 263 documented incidents. Binance stated that user deposits remained available and were not affected by the incident.

Security experts warn that the attackers have already used thousands of different addresses to move the funds. The expectation is that this number will continue to grow as criminals attempt to bypass the blocking measures imposed by the private sector.
