Binance has suffered a cyberattack resulting in the theft of $6.3 billion. This incident is now considered the largest robbery in the history of the digital asset market.
The company stated that it will fully cover user losses. Approximately $3 billion of the stolen funds have already been frozen in various locations and 90% of the losses have been covered by the platform.
The episode triggered immediate reactions from political figures as the US elections approach. Former President Donald Trump commented that the case is currently under review by authorities.
Senator Cynthia Lummis used the event to advocate for the passage of the Clarity Act. The bill aims to provide a legal framework for companies to freeze suspicious transactions at the request of law enforcement agencies.
Commodity Futures Trading Commission Chairman Michael Selig mentioned that the theft reinforces the need for a regulatory framework for the sector. The agency had already submitted supervision proposals for White House review in September.
