Wells Fargo and five other firms have formally objected to the listing of their shares in a tokenized format. The initiative is part of a joint project between the cryptocurrency exchange OKX and the Intercontinental Exchange, which owns the New York Stock Exchange.

As of last Friday, the number of companies opposing the model reached 22. In addition to Wells Fargo, the list of opponents includes Arm Holdings and Intuit. Giants such as Microsoft and Alphabet had also previously expressed resistance to the proposed format.

Most of the companies that rejected the proposal have shares listed on the Nasdaq. Only six of the companies that opposed the project operate on the New York Stock Exchange. The Nasdaq issued guidance warning about potential risks to liquidity and price discovery.

The OKX-ICE project intended to include 62 companies in the launch of the tokenized asset platform. Former New York Governor and co-chair of the initiative, Andrew Cuomo, stated that he expected resistance from companies during this initial phase. The goal of the firms appears to be avoiding the risks of testing a new stock trading model.

The caution shown by these companies regarding the SEC innovation exemption reflects uncertainties about the impact of digital assets on the structure of the traditional market. The stalemate may limit the initial supply of tokenized products in the financial ecosystem.
