Anthony Scaramucci says the president's business interests cost the regulatory bill its Democratic support.

SkyBridge Capital founder Anthony Scaramucci stated that Donald Trump's crypto ventures blocked the passage of the CLARITY Act. The launch of memecoins before the January 2025 inauguration reportedly undermined the bipartisan support needed for industry regulation.

The proposal, which aimed to create a federal regulatory framework for digital assets, failed in the Senate on September 15. The vote reached 49 in favor and 50 against, falling short of the 60-vote threshold required for the bill to advance.

Beyond memecoins, disagreements over ethical standards also stalled negotiations. Lawmakers sought to include strict restrictions on the crypto interests of public officials, but the White House opposed these requirements.

Data from the organization Public Citizen estimates that investors accumulated losses of at least 4.7 billion dollars in projects linked to Trump. The president's financial disclosure shows he earned 635 million dollars in memecoin licensing fees during 2025.

Scaramucci highlighted that the responsibility for the legislative failure is shared by both sides. Despite the impasse, he believes the SEC's stance under Paul Atkins' leadership may favor asset tokenization.
