Thailand Blocks Bitget Exchange Over Lack of License
Platform access will be cut off on December 5 following a criminal complaint from the local securities commission.
Thailand's Securities and Exchange Commission has filed a criminal complaint against the operator of the Bitget exchange. The agency requested that the Ministry of Digital Economy and Society block all access to the platform within the country starting December 5.
The restriction covers the company's official website, associated domains, and its mobile application. The decision follows investigations showing that the company offered digital asset trading services between 2022 and 2025 without the required legal authorization.
The Thai regulator stated that the exchange charged fees and promoted its services in the local language via social media. These activities violate current licensing standards for the digital asset sector in Thai territory.
The complaint was forwarded to the Economic Crime Suppression Division for further investigation. It will be up to the Public Prosecutor's Office to decide on formal charges and for the courts to determine the criminal liability of those involved in the case.
The Thai government is using a 2025 decree to restrict unlicensed platforms as part of an effort to combat financial crime. The measure reinforces the strict stance of local authorities against companies that operate outside the regulatory framework established to protect investors.
