The polling firm Wedgewood admitted on October 20 that it fabricated the majority of its election surveys. This case sparks concerns regarding the integrity of event contracts on the Kalshi platform. The service uses the aggregator VoteHub as a data source to determine the settlement value of its financial assets.

Investigators identified serious inconsistencies in Wedgewood's records while analyzing raw data from a Mississippi poll. The firm admitted to the fraud after being confronted with evidence that its numbers did not match surveys conducted by other providers. VoteHub kept the firm in its database despite assigning a low quality rating to its information.

Kalshi's regulatory documents state that data revisions made after a contract expires do not change the final settlement value. This mechanism aims to provide a definitive reference for investors at the time of closing. The system relies entirely on the accuracy of information available at the moment of observation.

The business model links financial outcomes to the methodology and reliability of third parties. The current structure does not provide for automatic adjustments if a primary source later admits that data was false. Traders remain exposed to operational and ethical failures of the data collection agencies used by the platform.
