Kraken has announced the removal of 176 native trading pairs from its platform. The process begins on November 6 and will be completed by November 9.

Affected markets will enter cancel-only mode starting at 14:00 UTC on November 6. All pending orders will be removed and clients must submit new instructions after the migration to the synthetic system.

The new structure eliminates traditional order books for these pairs. Transactions will now be routed through existing liquidity pools using the dollar as a common currency for simultaneous execution.

The synthetic model changes the exchange's fee policy. Even limit orders will now be charged as taker orders which removes the eligibility for previous maker discounts.

Assets such as BTC/DAI, ETH/JPY and SHIB/USDT are among those affected by the change. Kraken stated that client balances and margin operations will not be directly impacted by this technological update.

Operational changes at major exchanges can alter asset liquidity and increase transaction costs for frequent traders. This market structure adjustment reflects a pursuit of execution efficiency which may influence the volatility of less liquid pairs in the short term.
