About 88% of large global companies are already using or testing tokenized money to optimize cash management and cross-border payments. The survey, conducted by DBS with 422 financial leaders, shows that 24% of organizations have already implemented the technology at scale.
Stablecoins emerge as the primary instrument, being adopted or planned by 63% of respondents. Tokenized deposits follow with 53%, while tokenized money market funds hold a 52% preference among the companies consulted.
The pursuit of faster payments is a key driver of this transition. Approximately 71% of firms report improvements in real-time international transfers or expect to achieve this result within the next two years.
Despite this progress, challenges such as regulatory uncertainty and security risks persist. About two-thirds of executives want banks to provide a single access point to facilitate integration with the tokenized asset ecosystem.
The banking sector has responded with proprietary infrastructure, such as DBS Token Services and Citi solutions for corporate liquidity. Recent transactions between Singapore and New York demonstrated that the use of distributed ledgers allows for the movement of funds outside traditional banking hours.
