Fachin Approves Plea Deal of Former Reag Owner in Master Bank Case
João Carlos Mansur's agreement involves probes into embezzlement and money laundering at Banco Master.
The Chief Justice of the Supreme Court has validated the cooperation agreement signed between the Public Prosecutor's Office and João Carlos Mansur. The businessman founded Reag and is the target of investigations looking into suspicious financial transactions involving Banco Master.
Authorities are examining the use of investment funds to divert assets for personal gain or to pay bribes. The Central Bank detected irregularities in operations between the asset manager and the financial institution between July 2023 and July 2024.
The plea deal details the structure of companies and funds used to inflate assets and execute transfers abroad. The document names operators and potential political connections linked to the scheme that led to the bank's extrajudicial liquidation.
The case is being handled by the Supreme Court and is temporarily under the Chief Justice's office. The investigations also cover suspected money laundering in the fuel sector which connects the businessman to other recent police operations.
The legal fallout from investigations into financial institutions may heighten perceptions of regulatory risk and affect investor confidence in the Ibovespa.
