Intel has reached a construction milestone at its semiconductor plant in New Albany, Ohio. Crews installed the first major structural truss at the site. The project is facing a delay of at least five years compared to the original schedule.
The initial plan called for chip deliveries in 2025. Construction completion has been pushed to 2030, with a second unit expected in 2031. This shift reflects a cautious strategy under current leadership, which prioritizes confirmed demand before moving forward with expansion.
The company has yet to announce contracts with major external clients for the use of its foundry facilities. Currently, Intel uses its internal production to manufacture its own processors. The firm is looking to regain its position in the semiconductor market after technical difficulties in previous years.
The tech sector is experiencing record demand for artificial intelligence chips. The lack of space on global competitors' production lines creates an opportunity for Intel. The company is betting on the expansion of its capacity in the United States to attract partners interested in cutting-edge technology.
