Syria Foils Attack Plot Against Homs Oil Refinery
Syrian intelligence arrested suspects linked to Hezbollah after seizing explosives.
Syrian security forces claim to have thwarted a plot to attack the Homs oil refinery. The operation was carried out by the General Intelligence Directorate in coordination with the country's Internal Security Forces.
During the raid, authorities arrested two individuals identified by the initials M S and B Sh. The Syrian government reported the seizure of explosive devices that were intended to be used in the attack against the energy infrastructure.
Hezbollah denied the accusations from Syrian authorities. The group stated that it does not maintain a presence in Syrian territory and declared it is not involved in activities that undermine the country's stability.
Relations between Damascus and the Lebanese group have deteriorated since the fall of former President Bashar al-Assad in 2024. The Homs refinery is one of Syria's two main oil processing hubs and plays a central role in the supply of petroleum products.
Beyond this case, Syrian intelligence reported other recent operations against suspected cells in different regions. Authorities continue their investigations to identify connections between armed groups and attacks that have targeted electrical infrastructure and specific sites.
