U.S. Vice President JD Vance has sent a letter to Mohsen Rezaei, head of Iran's Supreme National Security Council. The document proposes the immediate resumption of peace negotiations between the two nations.
The correspondence was delivered by Qatari mediators last Sunday. The primary goal is to determine if there is diplomatic room to avoid a new American military offensive against Iranian territory in the coming weeks.
Reports suggest that Vance's proposal calls for a direct meeting between officials from both countries. The U.S. Vice President would lead the American delegation, just as he did during talks held in June.
The letter notes that the Iranian nuclear program must be a central theme of any future discussion. Iranian leaders reportedly received the message positively, although no official public statement has been made yet.
This move occurs against a backdrop of heightened tension. Donald Trump has warned allies in the Gulf region to prepare for potential high-intensity military operations shortly after the midterm elections.
