Prediction market platform Kalshi has closed a $1 billion funding round. The company reached a market valuation of $40 billion following the investment led by Wellington Management and Sequoia Capital.
The company's growth is driven by non-sports markets. This segment already generates more than $1 billion in annualized revenue. The firm recorded a trading volume of approximately $15.8 billion over the last 30 days.
Kalshi has recently formed partnerships with the NBA and S&P Dow Jones Indices. These agreements aim to integrate financial benchmarks into the platform's event contracts. The expansion continues despite ongoing legal challenges in the United States.
The company faces lawsuits regarding the nature of its sports contracts. The state of Utah has filed criminal charges against the platform and its founders. At the same time, the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission is seeking to block the enforcement of state laws on the business.
The rise of prediction platforms in global financial markets increases regulatory risk for digital assets. Legal uncertainty regarding derivatives may impact liquidity and risk perception in technology and cryptocurrency assets.
