Switzerland's financial authority has granted permission for the creation of a retail fund focused on Bitcoin. The regulator FINMA cleared the entity to maintain concentrated exposure to the digital asset. This decision breaks away from traditional diversification requirements applied to other investments.

The approval was based on Bitcoin's trading history and high volume compared to other cryptocurrencies. FINMA classified the product under the category of alternative investment funds that carry specific risks. This legal structure differs from exchange-traded products already existing in the country.

Previous products known as ETPs function technically as collateralized debt securities. The new fund establishes a distinct legal arrangement by investing directly in the digital currency. The regulator did not disclose the issuer's name, management fees, or the start date for operations.

Supervised institutions must follow strict guidelines for custody and operational security. The rule requires that client assets remain outside the custodian's bankruptcy estate in the event of insolvency. The use of external providers does not exempt the authorized financial institution from its legal responsibilities.

The decision reinforces the need for robust infrastructure and constant monitoring by managers. FINMA highlighted that other applications for similar funds are under review in the Swiss market. The agency maintains its focus on protection against technical risks and the transparency of information provided to retail investors.
