Bitcoin dominance in the digital asset market reached 60% this week. This is the highest level recorded since May. The shift reflects a clear investor preference for the largest cryptocurrency over smaller alternatives.
Altcoin performance has been negative recently. The memecoin index retreated more than 5%. Meanwhile, the computing and decentralized finance sectors posted declines of 3.5% and 2.5% respectively.
Bitcoin prices fluctuated below $82,000 on Thursday. The asset had briefly tested the $84,000 mark the previous day. Most major coins like ether and solana showed little change over the seven-day period.
Experts note that Bitcoin's scarcity may offer protection against instability in global stock markets. However, inflows into exchange-traded funds remain volatile. The market is waiting for consistent new flows to confirm a more robust recovery.
The global macroeconomic landscape is influencing price behavior. The Federal Reserve's next interest rate meeting is scheduled for next week. This event could increase risk aversion and put pressure on the dollar against more volatile assets.
