Israeli military forces carried out an incursion into the village of Jamla, located in the southern Syrian province of Deraa. The operation resulted in the death of a man with a disability. The Israeli army positioned snipers on rooftops during the operation this Thursday.

The Syrian government, led by President Ahmed al-Sharaa, condemned the Israeli military activities in the region. Local authorities state that recent actions include the destruction of olive groves and house-to-house searches in the provinces of Quneitra and Deraa. One person was detained during a separate operation in the village of Turnejeh.

Since the removal of Bashar al-Assad in December 2024, Israel has intensified troop movements within Syrian territory. The Israeli military command maintains its goal of establishing a security zone in the southern part of the neighboring country. Official negotiations for a security agreement between the nations have remained stalled since the start of the conflict between Israel and Iran in February.

The Syrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs described the incursions as an intensification of the occupation. The geopolitical instability in the Middle East is increasing risk aversion in global financial markets. Uncertainty regarding the duration and expansion of these regional conflicts may pressure demand for safe-haven assets and influence the volatility of the dollar and Bitcoin.
