The United States Department of Homeland Security has ordered the removal of all artificial intelligence technology from the Chinese company DeepSeek across civilian government systems. The directive covers the direct use of the company's models and any tools developed with the help of this technology. The decision took effect in late July and was made official this Monday.

The ban affects agencies such as the Department of the Treasury, the Department of State, and the Department of Justice. The American defense sector remains outside the scope of this specific determination. The government did not detail the exact technical vulnerabilities that prompted the block.

DeepSeek gained global relevance in 2025 with low-cost, high-capacity open-source models. The popularity of the service caused instability in the company's servers due to the high volume of traffic. The company's app is among the most downloaded on the Apple App Store.

American authorities and US technology companies accuse Chinese firms of copying proprietary artificial intelligence models. The US government classifies AI development as a strategic pillar in the geopolitical dispute with China. The environment of technological restrictions intensifies pressure on the supply chain and the semiconductor sector.
