Director of National Intelligence Jay Clayton stated that American companies and the government must increase their vigilance against foreign espionage. The statement follows the arrest of an OpenAI employee accused of installing a recording device in a company conference room.

Clayton leads a White House task force focused on protecting digital infrastructure against threats that utilize artificial intelligence. The government believes the technology increases cyber risks to critical defense systems and global communications.

The case involving OpenAI employee Abdulrahman Alfozan is viewed as an example of the extreme measures taken to try to surpass the technological leadership of the United States. Although he was not charged with espionage, the incident raises concerns regarding the security of strategic data in the private sector.
