The Zcash Community Grants committee has unveiled a plan to redirect approximately $124 million worth of ZEC tokens toward the mining reward mechanism. The proposal involves transferring 36,200 units from the current treasury and cutting future allocations scheduled through 2032.
The committee intends to retain about 55,200 ZEC under its management if the community approves the measure. The group argues that the adjustment aims to ensure long-term network sustainability by extending funding at a reduced rate for four years beyond the original 2028 deadline.
This initiative faces strong resistance from influential figures in the crypto sector. Critics argue that the plan fails to address structural governance flaws and are demanding greater accountability regarding the use of accumulated resources.
Executive Mert Mumtaz labeled the proposal insufficient and argued that financial decisions should be directly accountable to token holders. Tyler Winklevoss also questioned the committee members' qualifications to oversee large amounts of capital following recent social media behavior.
The debate comes at a time of mounting pressure for changes to the asset's issuance structure. Previous proposals suggested ending the automatic 8% cut allocated to the group to prioritize the network sustainability mechanism entirely.
