The Qubic blockchain network halted its activities on Sunday following a cyberattack. The attacker exploited vulnerabilities in wallet seed creation to withdraw approximately 1.4 million dollars from more than 1,400 accounts.

The issue affected users who generated seeds on Safari browsers on Mac or iOS devices until October 2026. The Qubic iOS app available before July 2025 also contained the same security flaw.

The project team reported that 87.1% of the stolen funds remain locked within the network itself. The remaining assets were sent to the MEXC exchange which quickly froze the attacker's account.

Developers replaced the random number generation function with a cryptographically secure tool in the latest version of the web wallet. The network remains paused while validators prepare a vote on the fund recovery plan.

Security incidents in network infrastructure can increase the perception of systemic risk and impact investor confidence in lower-cap digital assets.
