Major UK financial institutions are under pressure due to difficulties reported by customers regarding digital asset transactions. The Stand With Crypto group recorded over ten thousand complaints during a ninety-day period between May and August 2026.

Lloyds Banking Group leads the list with 2,297 registered grievances. Barclays follows with 1,569 records and NatWest Group accounted for 1,278 complaints. The survey highlights significant operational hurdles for users attempting to move funds to exchanges.

Some institutions have imposed strict caps on these operations. Barclays and HSBC UK limit transfers to 2,500 pounds per transaction and 10,000 pounds over a thirty-day period. Six other firms, including Chase UK and TSB, opted for a total block on transfers to the sector.

The restrictive landscape emerges as the country prepares to implement a new regulatory regime for digital assets in 2027. Industry experts warn that the lack of access to basic banking services could undermine the UK goal of establishing itself as a global hub for the cryptocurrency market.

Instability in banking access may increase liquidity risk for investors who rely on rapid transfers between traditional accounts and digital asset platforms.
