The SEC Division of Examinations has included superintelligence AI and tokenization in its priorities for the 2027 fiscal year. The agency believes these technologies could impact market integrity and investor protection.
The official document treats artificial intelligence as a systemic market variable. The agency intends to monitor how these tools affect compliance programs and fraud prevention across more than 34,000 registered entities.
Tokenization has also gained prominence as a risk linked to critical infrastructure. The regulator will focus on clearing agencies and transfer agents that operate with tokenized assets and Treasury settlement reforms.
Cryptocurrencies do not appear as an isolated examination category for the second consecutive year. The focus has shifted toward the integration of emerging technologies within traditional financial institutions and clearing agencies.
Director Keith Cassidy stated that this stance aims to identify risk patterns and emerging threats. Examiners retain the autonomy to review any activity involving compliance with federal securities laws.
