Regulator will not pursue enforcement actions against network participants who mine tokens.

The SEC Division of Corporation Finance has granted regulatory relief for Canton Coin. The agency recognized the asset as a digital commodity due to the utility of the network and the absence of a central controlling entity.

This understanding allows network participants to receive new tokens for infrastructure operations without prior registration under securities laws. The decision benefits validators and application providers who contribute to the institutional ecosystem.

The Canton project was developed by Digital Asset and is backed by major financial institutions. The governance model uses automated coin issuance to reward measurable contributions to the network.

The venture capital sector celebrated the move as a milestone for blockchain projects. Experts believe this position creates a clearer regulatory path for network tokens to be treated as commodities rather than financial securities.

This shift in the global regulator's stance may reduce legal risk for blockchain infrastructure projects and influence the perception of value for digital assets that have practical utility in institutional networks.
