The digital asset market is facing an unprecedented wave of closures in 2026. A survey identified 82 crypto projects that have ceased operations throughout this year.

Among the names that have shut down are Balancer, Radiant Capital, Neon EVM, and Step Finance. The layer-2 network Blast also confirmed the end of its operations after concluding that it lacked a viable path toward economic sustainability.

The reasons for the collapse range from a lack of product-market fit to a scarcity of new funding rounds. Insufficient revenue and the depletion of financial resources prevented the continuation of various decentralized finance and infrastructure protocols.

Security issues also played a critical role in the current landscape. Step Finance closed its doors after suffering a breach in its treasury, while Radiant Capital failed to recover from an attack that occurred in 2024.

The macroeconomic environment worsened the situation after Bitcoin retreated from its all-time high recorded in 2025. The pressure on the sector reflects the difficulty companies face in maintaining financial viability during periods of low liquidity and reduced user interest.
