Bitcoin continues its downward trend and is currently hovering around $77,000. The asset is on track to end October with a 7.7 percent decline. This performance marks the worst result for the month since 2014.
Pressure on the cryptocurrency market comes amid a wave of selling on United States stock exchanges. Tech stocks saw sharp declines following weak forecasts from industry giants. Intel, for example, saw its shares drop nearly 30 percent at the market open.
Pessimism has spread to other assets considered safe havens. Gold reached its lowest level in a year as it traded below $3,900 per ounce. Analysts note that uncertainties regarding the monetization of artificial intelligence are forcing a rotation in global portfolios.
Beyond macroeconomic factors, the crypto ecosystem is dealing with the aftermath of a cyberattack on Binance. The platform suffered a theft of $6.3 billion in digital assets. The company stated it will use its own capital to cover user losses.
The climate of global uncertainty increases volatility and the perceived risk in digital assets. The correlation between falling stock markets and the retreat of Bitcoin reinforces the market's sensitivity to macroeconomic conditions and tech company earnings.
